Octavius Bear Books 1,2 and 3 (RRP $54.85) - $39.85 saving

“Ingenious, exciting and very funny"  Sherlock Holmes Society of London

Imagine if Sherlock Holmes was a bear. This collection includes the first three novels of 'The Alternative Universe Mysteries for Adult Animal Lovers' that relate the exploits of super-sleuth Octavius Bear and his cohorts. Just for fun, this series swaps anthropomorphic animals for humans in a world very similar to our own 21st century. Earth minus homosapiens.

2. NEW BOOKS out this week...

Don’t Go Into The Cellar, Mr Holmes! - Sherlock Holmes Stories Re-Imagined for the Stage - Jonathan Goodwin

This book contains five scripts, three of which I owe a great debt of gratitude to Tony Reynolds as they are adaptations of stories taken from his wonderful book of Sherlock Holmes stories ‘The Lost Stories of Sherlock Holmes’ – The Adventure Of The Medium, The Giant Rat of Sumatra and The Adventure of The Amazonian Explorer.

As for the others, “Holmes Alone” is a light-hearted romp, that borrows elements and characters from several other Conan Doyle tales. “The Mazarin Malediction” is my attempt to embellish that oft-maligned story, “The Mazarin Stone”. Almost always it’s this story in particular that is singled out for harsh criticism. Yet I have always enjoyed the tale, and the others in the collection entitled “The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes”. “Malediction” is my homage to ACD’s original, written and performed with great affection and enjoyment.

There are about thirty new books out in September, October and November making for some excellent holiday reading and gifts - New Sherlock Holmes Books.

80 Years Gone In A Flash

Virtually all our books are Holmes, but we also publish autobiographies. This one is very special as it covers 80 years in the life of one of the world's leading photographers. I've had the pleasure of meeting John and seeing first hand some of his incredible photos.

From presidents to royalty, war torn regions to stunning scenery, the camera of John Jochimsen has captured it all. Perhaps the last person left alive today who was with Queen Elizabeth the day she became queen, John is one of the last remaining old school photojournalists. Eighty Years gone in a Flash traces the remarkable story in his own words, and with his own incredible pictures. From life at The News of the World to the jungles of Malaya, John provides an honest, witty and touching account of a colourful career spanning more than five decades.

The Disappearance of Mr James Phillimore - McCabe and Cody Book 4

When popular mystery writer Sebastian McCabe agreed to take part in a literary debate in London, he had no clue that he would wind up as both investigator and suspect in the strangest case of his amateur sleuthing career. Arthur James Phillimore, investment guru to the stars and member of an elite Sherlock Holmes society, steps back into his home to fetch an umbrella one rainy day and is never seen alive again. The mystery is eerily evocative of one of Dr. Watson's most famous untold tales, the disappearance of Mr. James Phillimore. But this Phillimore soon reappears - dead.

Jeff Cody and Lynda Teal, also in London on the second leg of their honeymoon, get swept up in the bizarre case as well. From the home gym of a gorgeous movie star (the second Mrs. Phillimore) to the flying office an airline entrepreneur, they help McCabe chase down clues all over London. For the journalist Lynda, it's a big story. For Jeff, it's a big distraction from the joys of married life. Dogging them along the way is the shadow of Sherlock Holmes, the one subject that several of the characters have in common. The great detective is also a figure for whom Lynda - to Jeff's dismay and consternation - evinces a growing fascination. Humor, romance, and mystery once again combine in an engaging McCabe-Cody adventure sure to delight the growing fan base of this series.

Nathaniel Hayes, son of circus impresario B.E. Hayes, has succumbed to a perplexing withering ailment. His parents are convinced it was a Voodoo King’s curse to extract payment for a long-ago favour. Anxious their son will now rise as a slave, they seal him in a tomb with no windows or exterior locks, but the next morning the mausoleum’s door is found open and his body is gone.
