A Professor Reflects on Sherlock Holmes (RRP $16.95)

The uniqueness of this book is the essays and activities that include both serious and farcical writings about A. Conan Doyle’s, Sherlock Holmes.  A travelogue that compares Reichenbach Falls and Trummelbach Falls for Professor Moriarty’s demise; and notes from a visit to Trinity College at Oxford to view Monsignor Knox’s writings and entries in the Gryphon Club Book provide the reader with engaging insights into Sherlock Holmes’ world of scholarship.

2. NEW BOOKS out this week...

Very busy week this week with three book launches... the first from MX and the other two from our sister imprint 'Orange Pip Books' - set up to enable more inclusivity in Holmes fiction.

Sherlock Holmes and The Egyptian Tomb Mystery (MX)

We are in London in 1890, and the British Museum plans to exhibit the contents, brought specially to London,  of a newly excavated Egyptian tomb. The event is disturbed by the murder of a museum watchman. A suspect is quickly found, a young museum assistant, caught red-handed with a bloodstained knife. But things are not so simple; behind this apparently clear case Holmes uncovers, piece by piece, just as did the archaeologists, a complicated story of blackmail, violence and treachery, which, at every step, threatens him, and Watson, with deadly consequences.  See how events ranging from the British Embassy in Cairo to a theatre in East London can baffle and confuse, until Holmes and Watson find the last pieces of the puzzle, and must fight for their lives.

Johanna Rieke is an internationally acclaimed Swiss writer and this is the 4th book that we've published translated from the original published German versions. All the books are stand alone and you can see them all on the Johanna Rieke Author Profile.

Sherlock Holmes and The Adventure of the Ghost Machine (Orange Pip)

Book three in the Sherlock and Irene series...

London: November 1905. England and the world are changing. Into the rooms of Sherlock Holmes come Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison-with new inventions that will alter the course of human history-only both inventions have gone missing.  Can Holmes, Watson, and Irene Adler somehow unravel the latest diabolical scheme of Marie Chartier-evil daughter of the late Professor Moriarty? Can world peace be achieved by the most powerful weapon ever created? Can death itself be overcome by a scientific genius? And can Sherlock Holmes survive the greatest personal loss of his career?

Secrets of Baker Street (Orange Pip)

Follow the recorded tales of Dr Watson herself as she navigates life with the enigmatic Sherlock Holmes. And discover the truth behind their unique bond as they uncover the necessity of each other. In case you were not aware, behind every great man is a woman with a very convincing fake moustache. Thus, the tales of the great Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson may, in fact, surprise you.

Regrettably, Johanna Watson was born a woman and to add to her father’s dismay, she was horrendously bad at it. She had a fire in her and a passion for research, science, and learning that her father didn’t understand. But after striking a deal with her brother, she took his place studying medicine incognito behind their father’s back. Thus, the erudite Doctor John Watson was established in the world.

After returning to London, she found rooms at 221B Baker Street with the enigmatic individual Sherlock Holmes. Watson did not anticipate they would have much in common: she was wrong. Sherlock has her own secrets and a life so full of mystery and intrigue that Watson cannot help but get wrapped up in it.

Sherlock Holmes and the Adventure of the Elusive Ear

In the same week as book three in the series is released in print, we're sharing the first book in audio.

London: December 1888. The notorious and as-yet undiscovered genius, Vincent van Gogh, presents Sherlock Holmes with a most unusual case. Aided by his partner Dr. Watson and his paramour Irene Adler, the trio embark on a rousing adventure and find themselves confronting the evil daughter of Professor Moriarty. With a helping hand from Oscar Wilde, the world's greatest detective attempts to solve one of the most audacious crimes of the Victorian era and uncover a post-impressionist conspiracy.

Badda Moon Rising

The fourth book in the Bernie Quist series.

A modern-day Sherlock Holmes, Bernie Quist operates as a consultant detective from Baker Avenue in York. His assistant is Watson, although this Watson is a streetwise youth from the Grimpen housing estate and he's definitely no doctor. The mismatched duo take on bizarre cases which invariably lead into the realms of the supernatural, a shadowy world that, thanks to his dark secret, Quist is all too familiar with.

A new exhibition is on display in the York Museum highlighting the infamous Badda sect and an obscure period in local history. Hidden away in North Africa's Atlas Mountains, this secretive cult performed mystical rites and sacrifices to their god, a sinister deity in the form of a huge wolf. Two-thousand years ago, the Romans brought this clandestine religion to Yorkshire, but sickened by their obscene practises, the Emperor Hadrian crushed the sect before it could become established.

Quist and Watson suspect the exhibition is connected to the grisly murders which are currently baffling the York police. It can't be a coincidence that these magical artefacts arrived in time for a unique date at the full moon, and how is the glib clairvoyant Kyle Tarot involved in this? The detective's terrified assistant soon wishes the Roman Emperor had been a little more thorough in his effort to stamp out the Badda cult.

A dark and very peculiar game is afoot...
