The next three volumes of the MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories are due in November and fans can get big discounts and unique rewards in the Volume XXII-XIV Kickstarter.
Each day we'll be highlighting one of the dozens of authors of the 64 new stories in the new volumes.
Today is Richard Paolinelli (Richard's website here)
Richard's story - “
The Substitute Thief"
Choosing the Darlington Substitution Scandal as the subject of my latest Holmes pastiche was a natural in many respects. It is an Untold Story that was mentioned in A Scandal In Bohemia, which is merely my favorite Holes story of all. It also allowed me to incorporate my sports writing career into a Holmes pastiche, so how could I resist? In The Substitute Thief, Holmes and Watson are summoned to Darlington, where a rare volume has been replaced with a forgery in the Darlington Library during the hustle and bustle of a big football match. A rematch looms between the two clubs, once again in Darlington, and Holmes must uncover the identity of the thief and recover the original book before the thief can escape.
Richard's favourite Holmes quote is:
“Life is infinitely stranger than anything which the mind of man could invent.”
A Case of Identity
