MX Publishing Features Peterson Sherlock Holmes Pipes

Posted by Steve Emecz on

As an avid cigar smoker our founder ended up talking all things Holmes and smoking with one of our authors Matthew Simmonds who is an expert and dealer in cigars and pipes.

Matthew explained that the one of the most famous pipes featured in the Sherlock Holmes world is the Peterson 'Sherlock Holmes' Calabash.

In 1987, Peterson released a special commemorative pipe to celebrate the 100th anniversary of A Study in Scarlet, Sir Arthur Conan Doyles' first novel in the Sherlock Holmes universe, originally published in the November 1887 issue of Beeton's Christmas Annual.

The pipe was a tubular, almost trumpeting Calabash shape: an XL version of the 305(b) System first designed by their senior craftsman, Paddy Larrigan. That design is better known today as the Original.

The pipe comes in two versions - the most popular being the new replaceable filter version. The perfect companion to our very popular book Sherlock Holmes As A Pipe Smoker by Thomas Gwinner.

Each pipe comes in a presentation box and makes an ideal gift.
