The Sherlockian Interview - Kevin Thornton

Posted by Steve Emecz on

The final four volumes (49-52) of The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories are now on Kickstarter (click here). Every day we will be featuring one of the authors in the collection. Today its Kevin Thornton.

What’s the name of your story in the collection?

It's poem called the Reader. David offered me the  chance to do something different and I jumped at it.

How did the story come about?

It was about my enjoyment of the canon and the place I feel it hold in the literary hearts of all fans.

Have you contributed to anthologies before?

I think this is about my 15th or 16th effort here in the MX collection, and about the same number again elsewhere.

Where did you first discover Holmes?

When I was five, on the bookshelves at home. I come from a family of readers and as the youngest I grabbed everyone's else's castoffs and made them my own. Many did not last, Conan Doyle did.

Are there any writers/adaptations of Holmes you particularly enjoy? I like Derrick Belanger's stories, and David Marcum's. Further afield I have enjoyed Lyndsay Faye's take on Holmes, refreshing and great writing, as well as the  Holmes-adjaceent stories by H.B. Lyle.

Do you write on any other subjects?

I dabble in other forms of short stories.. I have written many unpublished books, a situation I hope to rectify one day (I was a finalist six times in the Crime Writers of Canada best unpublished novel, but never made it to the top)

Where can fans find more about your work?

I hang about on Amazon at Kevin Thornton
