The Sherlockian Interview - John Lawrence

Posted by Steve Emecz on

The final four volumes (49-52) of The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories are now on Kickstarter (click here). Every day we will be featuring one of the authors in the collection. Today its John Lawrence.

What’s the name of your story in the collection?

“The Devil’s Bridge”

How did the story come about?

Last fall, I was hiking to the site of my son’s recent elopement, which included photographs at the Devil’s Bridge feature in Sedona, AZ, and I could not help thinking what a lovely setting it was for a murder that Holmes might solve during the Great Hiatus.

Have you contributed to anthologies before?

Yes, to many MX anthologies, and most of these stories have been gathered into my two books of short stories, The Undiscovered Archives of Sherlock Holmes and (predictably) The Further Undiscovered Archives of Sherlock Holmes. My stories have also appeared in Belanger Books’ anthologies "After the East Wind Blows" Part I. (“The Case of the Despicable Client”) and "After the East Wind Blows" Part III. (“The Curious Case of President Harding”).

Do you write on any other subjects?

Yes, I am an historian with a long history of working in Congress. I have published two studies of the modern Congress, Arc of Power: Inside Nancy Pelosi's Speakership 2005-2010 and The Class of 74: Congress After Watergate and the Roots of Partisanship. I also blog about current political issues at DOMEocracy.
