From the winter celebrations of January 6th to the spring tributes of May 22nd, the Holmesian year is defined by its milestones. Yet today, February 20th, we mark a specific, pivotal anniversary—the night 75 years ago when the modern movement truly went to work.
The Night the Modern Movement Was Born
On this night in 1951, the newly formed Sherlock Holmes Revival Committee met at Allen’s Bar in Marylebone to map out a future for the Great Detective. Fresh from recreating 221B Baker Street for the Festival of Britain, they lit the spark for a global resurgence and ensured that for generations to come, the game would never be over. In doing so, they metaphorically reopened the lid of Watson’s legendary dispatch box, inviting the world to look beyond the original stories.
The Legacy of the Dispatch Box
