The Sherlockian Interview - Martin Daley

Publié par Steve Emecz le

The final four volumes (49-52) of The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories are now on Kickstarter (click here). Every day we will be featuring one of the authors in the collection. Today its Martin Daley.

What’s the name of your story in the collection?

His Longest Case

How did the story come about?

It is a follow up to my previous story ‘The Perfect Spy’, where Holmes recruited Martha, who helped him trap Von Bork. ‘His Longest Case’ details his exploits in America prior to apprehending the German spy.

Have you contributed to anthologies before?

Yes, I’m proud to have contributed to several MX anthologies in support of Undershaw.

Where did you first discover Holmes?

I can’t really remember, probably as a child – it’s so long ago!

Are there any writers/adaptations of Holmes you particularly enjoy?

There are many terrific pasticheurs out there, and many enjoyable films too but, like many Sherlockians I’m sure, I believe the Granada adaptations of the stories with Jeremy Brett and David Burke/Edward Hardwicke are head and shoulders above anything else. The way they brought Doyle’s text and Paget’s drawings to life – I am still mesmerised by them all these years later.

Do you write on any other subjects?

I write both fiction and non-fiction, including a lot of ghost writing, which is always interesting. There is an old saying: “I could write a book!” Respectfully, I don’t think everyone can, but everyone certainly does have a story to tell and it’s always fascinating listening to people’s lives or ideas.

Where can fans find more about your work?
