The Sherlockian Interview - Peter Shumway
Posted by Steve Emecz on
The final four volumes (49-52) of The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories are now on Kickstarter (click here). Every day we will be featuring one of the authors in the collection. Today its Peter Shumway.
What’s the name of your story in the collection?
I have two stories in Part L of the MX Books of New Sherlock Holmes Stories.
The Sharpshooter's Revenge and Antoinette's Apparition
How did the story come about?
For the Sharpshooter's Revenge I happened to come across an article on the Whitworth rife used in the mid 19th century. It was a .451 caliber muzzle loaded rife which used a unique bullet designed to travel through a twisted barrel. From what I have read, it was claimed to be accurate to two thousand yards.
For Antoinette's Apparition, I am fascinated by the history of Marie Antoinette's diamond necklace. What if some of the diamonds were recovered and made into a new necklace only to be stolen?
Have you contributed to anthologies before?
David Marcum was kind enough to include 'The Missing Calabash' in Part XLIII and 'Sophy Kratides in Peril' in Part XLVI.
Where did you first discover Holmes?
I read the original Sherlock Holmes stories while in college in 1979 and have enjoyed rereading them many times since. I published a pastiche titled "Sherlock Holmes and The Kiss of Death" in 2005.
Do you write on any other subjects?
My other recent literary project is a non-Canonical work of historical fiction and magic realism titled 'Gullible's Journey' available on Amazon.
Where can fans find more about your work? (e.g., Blog, Amazon profile, etc.)
