The Sherlockian Interview - John McNabb

Posted by Steve Emecz on

The final four volumes (49-52) of The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories are now on Kickstarter (click here). Every day we will be featuring one of the authors in the collection. Today its John McNabb.

What’s the name of your story in the collection?

The Adventure of the Unfinished Case

How did the story come about?

I had been researching aspects of the Adventure of the Creeping Man, and was inspired by a Sherlock Holmes Society of London weekend trip to Oxford to explore in more detail Conan Doyle's original story.

Have you contributed to anthologies before?

Yes. I was lucky enough to have an entry accepted for 'The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories, Part XXIV' My story was called 'The Adventure of the Armchair Detective.'

Where did you first discover Holmes?

When I was in my 20s. I found a' Complete Stories' type of volume in a second-hand bookshop for a few quid. I loved the old movies so bought the book and then fell in love with them.

Are there any writers/adaptations of Holmes you particularly enjoy?

Hmm, that's a hard question. I enjoy those stories where authors blend in genuine historical  context.

Do you write on any other subjects?

I enjoy a lot of genres. I have written pastiche on the War of the Worlds and the Trojan War. I have also dabbled in vampire stories, just for the sheer escapism. Really fun.

Where can fans find more about your work?

Nowhere as yet, but perhaps one day.
