The Sherlockian Interview - Bonnie MacBird

Posted by Steve Emecz on

The final four volumes (49-52) of The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories are now on Kickstarter (click here). Every day we will be featuring one of the authors in the collection. Today its Bonnie MacBird.

What’s the name of your story in the collection?

In these volumes I have written a forward but in previous volumes I've contributed a story, Adventure at the Beau Soleil,  "Two Sonnets” and a comedy poem.. "Sweet Violin"

How did the story come about?

It began as a moment in a longer work, then I thought it had legs, so I decided to make it a stand alone story and develop it further.

Have you contributed to anthologies before?

Yes, quite a few.  Sherlock Holmes of Baking Street, Holmes is Like, and more….and I have six full length Holmes novels published by Harper Collins - A Sherlock Holmes Adventure.

Where did you first discover Holmes?

As a ten year old in the library in my home town.  I read one, then inhaled the all.  Have been a fan ever since.

Are there any writers/adaptations of Holmes you particularly enjoy?

I loved BBC Sherlock, Granada with Jeremy Brett, and the Downey/Law films.   I also found House starring Hugh Laurie a particularly satisfying riff on Holmes.  In all of these franchises, I found that the earlier works were the best.

Do you write on any other subjects?
Yes.  I write plays, poetry, and essays on creativity and writing techniques.   In past lives I’ve been a screenwriter, story editor, and writing teacher.

Where can fans find more about your work?

My website www.macbird.com
