Sherlock Holmes, the world’s “only unofficial consulting detective”, was first introduced to readers in A Study in Scarlet published by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in 1887.It was with the publication of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, however, that the mastersleuth grew tremendously in popularity, later to become one of the most beloved literary characters of all time.

A SCANDAL IN BOHEMIA: This is the first of 56 short stories written by Doyle and featuring the fictional detective Sherlock Holmes. The story is notable for introducing the character of Irene Adler, who is one of the most notable female characters in the Sherlock Holmes series, despite appearing in only one story. Doyle ranked "A Scandal in Bohemia" fifth in his list of his twelve favourite Holmes stories.
