Sherlock Book Review - Tales of Light, Shadow, and Darkness - Tracy Revels

David Marcum Tracy Revels entered the Sherlockian literary world by way of a short volume of Holmes parodies, a three-volume series in which Holmes is a magical member of the wizarding world, and an excellent online Christmas pastiche written in the traditional and correct manner about the True Holmes. From this, she was invited to participate in “The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes stories”, and she never looked back, becoming one of the most prolific contributors. Since then, she has shared dozens of excellent Canonical adventures with happy readers, and now these have been collected into three volumes –...

Sherlock Holmes Society of London Not a month goes by without a new title being added to the surfeit of pastiche, but Denis O. Smith has a command of Watsonian style and tone that, bar the occasional misstep, has his titles rising above the generic. After an unpromising start with a title case that is somewhat over-burdened with technical details and a tad overlong, the other stories in this latest collection are far more enjoyable. In ‘The Hungarian Doctor’, Smith captures the tension of a classic Conan Doyle gothic with a riff on ‘The Greek Interpreter’ and ‘The Engineer’s Thumb’...

Like Myles’ first book, these stories follow the Canonical path and, reading them, I quickly sit...

The Sherlock Holmes Society of London Jeff Cody, vice-president of marketing and communications at a small Catholic university in Erin, Ohio, is an unsuccessful writer of hard-boiled crime stories. Outclassed by his brother-in-law, Professor Sebastian McCabe BSI, a leading author and amateur detective, Jeff serves as a sometimes rather grudging Watson to Sebastian’s Holmes. Both have a fondness for the super-heroes and villains of graphic novels, so naturally they attend the Tri-State Comic Book Expo when it comes to Erin. One speaker is a local celebrity, Parker Williams, high-flying writer-artist, who has been accused of stealing the character of his...
