Book Review - Tales of Scotland Yard - Lestrade

David Marcum "After writing a very sizeable number of adventures about Inspector Lestrade and the other men of Scotland Yard, all of which have appeared on line as fan-fiction (and one small print-on-demand volume), Bianca Jenkins has brought her interpretation of the Yarders to Sherlockian publishing giant, MX Books, by way of their Orange Pip imprint. Here she tells an origin tale of our favorite and most well-known Sherlockian policeman, beginning in 1867. It’s a very fitting and traditional narrative, and provides an excellent foundation for the online stories which some of us have been enjoying for years. This is...

Book Review - The Curious Book Of Sherlock Holmes Characters

Sherlock Holmes Society of London "This comprehensive directory of every character in the Canon sensibly proceeds in a simple alphabetical format (by character rather than story) and, equally sensibly, has a comprehensive index. Characters I didn’t even consider characters are represented, such as Desborough, a horse from Silver Blaze. If it had a name it’s in the book! For each character we are given the name, story, sex, and whether they are alive or dead in the Canon. In addition, depending on the importance of the character, are details which can range from physical appearance to occupation and, if relevant,...

Book Review - The Curious Cases of Sherlock Holmes

David Marcum This is a Golden Age of Sherlockian Adventure, and this collection is a prime example of why. With an interest in Sherlock Holmes, and being knowledgeable on the subject as well, Herczeg began writing Holmes pastiches, submitting them to various anthologies, such as “The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories”. After a while, and a few years of repeating the process and accumulating a sizeable collection of published adventures, we now have this set of fifteen superb narratives. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but I’d choose “The Adventure of the Sugar Merchant” – what starts as...
