The Sherlockian Interview - Natching Kassa

Posted by Steve Emecz on

The final four volumes (49-52) of The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories are now on Kickstarter (click here). Every day we will be featuring one of the authors in the collection. Today its Natching Kassa.

What’s the name of your story in the collection?

My story is called, "The Case of the Puzzled Postman."

How did the story come about?

I love to read the canon and, while doing so, I realized there weren't many stories about the post. (I think the most famous story is "The Cardboard Box.") I imagined a story featuring a postman as the client and the story grew from there.

Have you contributed to anthologies before?

Yes, I've been published in over fifty anthologies. Many are horror stories, but most are Sherlock Holmes stories.

Where did you first discover Holmes?

I walked into the living room the summer before my tenth birthday, and saw Jeremy Brett and David Burke on PBS television. I sat down, watched the show and became an instant fan.

Later, my dad convinced me to read the canon (he told me I could read "The Crooked Man," so that I could tell everyone about it when we watched the next episode of the Granada series.) I read every story after that.

Are there any writers/adaptations of Holmes you particularly enjoy?

I really enjoy stories by James Lovegrove, David Marcum, Margie Deck, Nancy Holder, Chris Chan and many others. My most favorite writer (aside from Sir Arthur) is Nicholas Meyer. I love his novels. (I also love how he incorporates Sherlock Holmes into his other interests, like Star Trek.)

Do you write on any other subjects?

Yes, I'm also a horror writer. One of my stories appeared in the Bram Stoker Award-nominated anthology, Arterial Bloom.
